About the Competitions

The International Organ Festival Society gratefully acknowledges the financial support it receives from St Albans City & District Council, John Stocker and The Williams School of Church Music.

 

Interpretation Competition

First Prize - £6000

(Sponsored by the Williams School of Church Music)
plus recital engagements at venues which will include:

St Albans Cathedral; St Bavo, Haarlem; Chartres Cathedral; King’s College, Cambridge and St John’s Smith Square, London.

Also representation by Phillip Truckenbrod Concert Artists in the USA for one season and a solo recording to be made by Priory Records in their Great European Organs series.

Second Prize - £2,500

plus recital engagements at venues which will include:

St Giles’ Cathedral, Edinburgh; Christ Church, Oxford and Symphony Hall, Birmingham.

Peter Hurford Prize - £1000
(Donated jointly by the organbuilders Harrison & Harrison, and Peter Collins)
This prize will be awarded to the competitor who gives the best performance of J.S.Bach in any round of either competition.

Douglas May Award - £800
This will be awarded to a competitor, who is not a recipient of any other prize, for the best performance of any competition piece in the Quarter-Final or Semi-Final rounds on the Festival Society’s Collins organ at St Saviour’s Church.

Audience Prize - £500
plus recital engagements.
This prize will be awarded to the competitor who in the Interpretation Final, in the opinion of the audience, gives the most enjoyable performance.

 

 

Improvisation Competition

Prize - £6,000
plus recital engagements at venues which will include: St Albans Cathedral and Ste Clôtilde, Paris.
