Festival 2009
The 25th International Organ Festival at St Albans will take place from 9th to 18th July 2009.

Restoration of the Harrison & Harrison organ in St Albans Cathedral
The organ of the Cathedral and Abbey Church of St Albans was built in 1962 by Harrison & Harrison of Durham to a design by Ralph Downes and Peter Hurford.
The instrument is currently being fully restored with new windchests, mechanisms and the provision of a new console (4 manuals). There will be a few additions to the tonal resources of the instrument including a new full compass pedal rank giving two additional reed stops at 32' & 16' pitches, and 8' & 4' chorus
Trumpets on the Great. The fourth manual (Solo and Nave) will be the home for the derived stops of a solo nature, previously residing on the Choir manual, and for a new Nave chorus. This latter department will be installed at a later date, placed at some distance from the main instrument, and is primarily intended to assist congregational singing in the very long Nave of the cathedral. The physical reinstallation of the organ will take place in the autumn of 2008 with voicing of the pipework commencing after Christmas, and into early 2009. The organ will be ready for the services at Easter 2009.
